State/Federal Financial Assistance Program


Energy Assistance Program 

The Senior Center is arranging Energy Assistance appointments with New Opportunities of Greater Meriden.  They are taking applications for Electric, Gas, and Heat included customers. Appointments are on Thursdays beginning at the end of October.  Applications are done over the telephone. There is no contact. Annual Income Guidelines (for households whose heat is not included in their rent) are as follows:
One Person Household - Income cannot exceed $36, 171
Two Person Household - Income cannot exceed $47, 300
Please call the Senior Center at 828-7006 with any questions you may have regarding eligibility requirements and documentation and to schedule your appointment.  Deadline to apply is April 30th.

AARP Tax Aide Program

This year 2020/2021 the AARP Tax Aide Program has decided not to open either Tax Aide sites in Berlin.  Because of the pandemic they have reduced the number of sites and appointments they are offering. A Tax Aide Fact Sheet has been created to give residents other options for getting their taxes done. You may request a copy to be emailed to you or you may pick it up at the Senior Center. Please contact the Center for either requests.  

CT Tax Relief Renters Rebate Program - Ends October 1, 2021

This state program is handled by the Berlin's Town Social Worker, Jaymee Miller.  You may contact her as of May 3rd, 2021 to ask questions and to set up an appointment.   Her business hours are Monday-Wednesday 8:30-4:30PM, Thursday 8:30-7pm and Friday, 8:30-1pm. 

Emergency Broadband Benefit 

The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms, and so much more. UniteCT Emergency Rental Assistance

UniteCT is a rental and utility assistance program supporting CT residents negatively impacted by COVID-19. The program will financially support households up to 80% of the HUD Area Median Income.
