CT DMV Licensing Process Change
Beginning Monday, June 12, 2017 DMV will phase-in a Central Issuance program for mailing license and ID cards from a secure facility. DMV will also introduce a new design for the current licenses and IDs, including several new and upgraded security features to help prevent identity fraud.
Required by the federal Real ID act, the Central Issuance program shifts license and ID cards' printing from DMV and AAA offices to a more secure and separate facility. No longer will these cards be handed to someone renewing or obtaining a license or ID. However, residents still must appear at a DMV office to renew or obtain a license or ID. They will be given a temporary paper card until the new card arrives in the mail.
