Tax Payment Information

The Revenue Collector's office is responsible for the billing and collection of property taxes that comprise approximately 80% of the town's operating revenue. The office operates under the authority of the Connecticut General Statutes. 

Office Hours:

  • Monday through Wednesday - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • Thursday - 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 
  • Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

We do not close for lunch.

Tax Bill Information

Information regarding payments for Real Estate, Motor Vehicle, & Personal Property tax bills:

PLEASE NOTE: Real Estate taxes are now due on a semi-annual basis. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A SECOND BILL FOR THE SECOND INSTALLMENT DUE JANUARY 1ST, ONLY A REMINDER NOTICE.

July 2022 tax bills

Taxes on the 2021 Grand List are due on July 1, 2022. They are payable without delinquent interest through August 1, 2022. Payments postmarked by USPS on August 1, 2021 are deemed timely. Tax bills will be mailed out June 30, 2022.

If your bill says “BACK TAXES ALSO DUE”, please call our office before making or mailing a payment. If you have an escrow account with your mortgage company for real estate taxes or leasing company for your car, they will pay the bill by the end of July 2022.

January 2023 tax bills

Supplemental Motor Vehicle and 2nd installment Real Estate taxes on the 2021 Grand List are due on January 1, 2023. They are payable without delinquent interest through February 1, 2023. Payments postmarked by USPS on February 1, 2023 are deemed timely.

If your bill says “BACK TAXES ALSO DUE”, please call our office before making or mailing a payment. If you have an escrow account with your mortgage company for real estate taxes or leasing company for your car, they will pay the bill by the end of January 2023.

Due Dates for Property Taxes:

  • Real Estate 1st Installment: due July 1, last day to pay without penalty is August 1st
  • Personal Property: due July 1st, last day to pay without penalty is August 1st
  • Motor Vehicle: due July 1st, last day to pay without penalty is August 1st
  • Real Estate 2nd Installment: due January 1st, last day to pay without penalty is February 1st
  • Supplemental Motor Vehicle: due January 1st, last day to pay without penalty is February 1st

Interest is charge on late payments at the rate of 1.5% per month. 

If you make a payment of your first installment of real estate, personal property, or motor vehicle bill on August 2nd or late in August, the nill will incur 3% of interest for two months - July and August. A portion of a month is considered a whole month; interest is not per diem. 

If you make a payment on your second installment of real estate or supplemental motor vehicle bill on February 2nd or later in February, the bill will incur 3% of interest for two months - January and February. A portion of a month is considered a whole month; interest is not per diem. 


Motor vehicle bills from July 1st, 2022 and prior are in collections with TaxServ Capital Services. 

The Town of Berlin is under contract with TaxServ for the collection of the Town's delinquent Motor Vehicle taxes. If you receive a letter from TaxServ, you must call TaxServ to discuss your account and arrange payment. If you do call the Town of Berlin, you will be directed to contact TaxServ.
