Berlin Veterans Commission Selling Bricks for Veterans Memorial Park

With Memorial Day approaching, a brick doesn't sound like much of a gift, except when it's a memorial brick being sold for the “Heroes Walk” at the Berlin Veterans Memorial Park on Veterans Way.

Each brick honors a veteran, living or deceased, who served in the nation's military. The honoree's name, military branch, unit or post and time of service are engraved on each brick before the brick is placed into the walkway of the park.

The “Heroes Walk” has a monument and flagpole for each branch of the military services. They have been placed in a circle around the American Flag with benches at each monument where one can sit quietly, enjoy the beauty of the park and perhaps give thanks to those who have kept our country free.

Anyone who is interested in ordering a brick to bear the name of a veteran who has served can get an application on the Town of Berlin’s website, https://www.berlinct.gov,  go to the Veterans Commission webpage, and click on “Veterans’ Memorial Brick Form”. Applications are also available at the Town Clerk’s, Town Manager’s office, or you can contact any Veterans Commissioner. You can also click on the PDF or JPG file attached to this article to obtain an application It can be downloaded, printed and mailed to Town of Berlin, Attn: Veterans Commission, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, CT 06037.

The only criteria are that the veteran has obtained an Honorable Discharge and has a copy of form DD214; this will be necessary to purchase a brick. The cost is $80.00. Proceeds from the sale of the bricks will be used to insure the proper maintenance of the Berlin Veterans Memorial Park and all the veterans’ memorials in town, as well as the care of the flags flying there.
